Catfish Off The Table
Recently after a review I posted about a very pleasant session with a lady from the other side of the Tasman I made a comment saying that it was great even if one of her fellow country people had broken my heart earlier this year. One of the comments posted was asking if I could elaborate in a blog.
To be honest there isn’t really much to tell. I had been corresponding with a “lady” I had met on a dating site and had got to a point where I was going to make a trip to meet them. It was during the Auckland Nines as it was an event we were both going to be at and enjoy. Everything about it felt right. I travelled across the Tasman to meet this person only to get flaked. It was on Day 2 of the footy that realisation dawned on me that I had been played for a mug.
For the record I wasn’t bombarding them by any means. In fact, I believe I was quite measured. But the fact that she stopped replying to my messages and didn’t answer my 2 attempted phone calls. I got the message so to speak.
Even though I wasn’t due to travel home until the Wednesday of that week I was so upset by the whole experience that that Sunday Night I just wanted to come home. I wouldn’t have been able to get any money back from what had already been booked and paid for. So I tried to make the best of a bad situation. So I went for a drive on the Monday to get out of the city.
To top things off on my last night over there I had a bingle in the hotel car park.
Since then I've had a few people say to me that this was a Catfish. Looking back on it, it seems this is exactly what happened. Financially and emotionally I'm still dealing with the fallout from it. Nearly $4000 down the drain for a trip I wasn’t going to take if it weren’t meeting this person.
Hard to have been living like a recluse since then trying to save my money and recoup that loss. Taking longer than expected.
