Porn star is one of the few professions that comes with its own cultural shorthand: Whenever someone mentions the job, a very specific picture pops in our minds, just like when someone says "cowboy" or "gangster."

 

Too bad these images in our head are often ridiculously off the mark. The stereotypical cowboy look was made up by movies, and most Internet comedians are actually rather less attractive than that (Soren Bowie notwithstanding). Likewise, that standard "Stripperella with daddy issues" image we as a society tend to mentally assign any and all porn stars is actually pretty damn far from the truth.

But the puzzle remains why from all professions, porn is the only one where the performers are called "stars" regardless of whether they are one or not? ;)

 

And one assumption the article makes is that we think about porn "stars" at all. To be perfectly honest I have never wondered what they are like once the lights go off and the camera stops, but in fairness the same can be said for any actors; maybe I'm just not a very curious person.

I'm much the same. I don't think about them at all. But I do think about the people that are thinking about Porn Stars.

 

How many young guys seem to idolise porn stars to the point that they thinking seeing one that also works as an Escort would somehow be better that just seeing a regular Escort?

 

And these days celebrity strippers and porn stars are sought after for opinions in Lads Mags. They hand out the same sort of Pop Psychology advice Cloe can cover, but because a ghost writer for a stripper with big knockers is scribbling it down, heaps of horny idiots will then send her fan mail.

 

I've been close to some porn stars at a couple of Sexpo's and I'm always a little surprised by just how small they are in person. Once they are on the big arse TV in my living room they just seem larger than life and more slutty – even if I read their Bio which says they are only 5' etc. In person, there are tiny, beige, pimply and tired looking with flat dry hair. Eeeek :D
