Beware Of The Scammers

I wrote and published this a few years ago but still has relevance now

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In my pursuit of trying to find a permanent lady friend to share my life with I've signed up to a number of free Personal sites. Well recently on one of them I've become the target of what seems to me to a scam. It seems that there are some "women" who have pics of good looking ladies and then basically try to tell you all that you want to hear, will say they love you and have fallen for you.

Their profiles say they're in Australia, The UK or the US but when you start talking to them they say they're in Ghana.

The snag comes when they try on some kind of sob story in a bid to try and get you to send them money. In my cases to buy a web cam or to pay their Internet bill. It smells like the Nigerian Letter Scam if you ask me.

Then the other day I had a really bizarre scenario. in that a woman in the Philippines wanted offered me a private web cam showing the started to pretend to have hunger pains saying all her money was gone and that she wanted me to help he get some food. Thing is she claimed she was on her own but I saw somebody’s arm in the background earlier on in the piece

Well I am smart enough to have snuffed that out and nipped it in the bud. Suffice it to say I didn't send them any money. But it just makes me sad to think that their are blood sucking parasites out there who prey on lonely hearts.

A mate of mine had a similar thing happen a couple of years ago. Except in his case it was a Russian Woman. Thankfully he also nipped that one in the bud too. In fact he found out after the fact that she was on a blacklist.

Whilst I'm trying to find somebody locally it seems that most of the women who contact me have been either these Ghanans or are in the Philippines. If they are local they’re already taken and I think I make it quite clear that I'm not interested if they’re already taken and am not looking for platonic friendship.

Man it's hard. Maybe that's why I love that song Fall For You by Secondhand Serenade so much.

Footnote: Still no luck on eHarmony. A site I joined thinking it was for people who were serious about finding love. Only reason I haven't given up and become a punter for life is because there are things I want in life that WLs can't give me

Mate, in the same boat. I've tried the dating sites and have had 0% luck. Now, I guess some people are lucky enough to meet online, heck, one of my Year 12 buddies met his fiance over YouTube. But for those who online dating doesn't work I can only think that this would be your next step, it's what I'm trying at the moment.

Put yourself out there more and meet lots of new people. Go to events and things that you don't normally go to. The more people you go out and meet and talk to the more likely the chance is of meeting someone. It's like in sales, there'll be lots of rejection, but it's all a number's game, the more people you encounter, the greater the chance of success.

I hear ya about Eharmony. I tried that site for about 3 months & did try to be as honest as possible with all the people on there. While It was quite easy to get replies & get chats going, moving to actually meeting people on there was difficult in my experience. Only managed 2 face to face meetings in my time there and neither progressed beyond an initial get together.

In my opinion, I think that the women there are probably spoilt for choice with guys contacting them and are therefore VERY picky. lol or they have extremely high standards and wont compromise on anything! Kinda like us punters with W/Ls here.... ;)

Anyway, dont give up yet - as Hilksha said, its a numbers game.

Yes have noticed those dating sites have dodgy profiles, usually pictures of porn stars, probably an artificial intelligence program sending replies out.

Number 1 rule is NEVER send money. The Number 2 rule is also NEVER send money.

Yeah I know that's technically only one rule but yes such an important one it was worth mentioning twice

Love it how these people tell you their sob stories - I get them sent to me daily to me email address - feel like sending them a quick reply back "bitch please, I've got real sob stories to cry you a river!"

It's funny how the Ghana (or some other West African country) reference comes out rather quickly. That's when I snuff them out. In fact I have been tempted to give them a few insults
